Ray O’Connor, Project Management Ltd.
"My
name is Ray O' Connor and I'm just starting my final year in Chemical
& Process Engineering after having spent the summer in work placement.
I worked for the Project Management group (PM), who are a large engineering
consultancy firm with offices in Cork,
Dublin, Poland,
Singapore
and the UK.
I was based in their newly opened, €11 million office building
in Loughmahon, Cork
City. For the 3 months of
work placement I was working as a member of the process department,
which is one of the many departments that are based within the building.
I got the chance to apply what knowledge I had learned in college to
many projects and I gained invaluable experience from working with the
qualified engineers, most of whom are CIT graduates. I worked on PM
projects for companies such as Pfizer, Merck Sharpe & Dohme,
GlaxoSmithkline and Janssen. I also got the
chance to go on site on one of the projects that I was working on in
Pfizer's newly acquired Inchera plant in Little
Island.
I
also got the chance to play indoor soccer with the other workers and
I made good friends with the students from the other departments who
were on similar work placement programs. All in all it was a great experience
and I would recommend it to anyone"
