Chemical Engineering Department News

11.11.05: Membrane Separation processes Seminar

A one-day seminar will be run on 29 November in the Rochestown Park Hotel on practical applications of membrane separation processes. There have been a number of successful applications of membranes in our region, but also some doubts. These case studies provide the opportunity to hear and question practical experiences.

This seminar is the first in a series to be presented on the topic by CIT. The Department of Chemical & Process Engineering is extending its technical capacity in this field. One postgradute project has been completed on pervaporation and a second is about to start. Another project on nanofiltration is complete and a second is in the pilot trial phase. A number of undergradute projects have been completed or are underway. We hope to make a significant announcement in 2006 regarding developments in this area.

More info and a registration form can be found here

01.11.05: Accreditation

The CIT Chemical Engineering Department has been re-accreddited by the Instution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE - This is the international body which represents the Chemical engineering profession worldwide). The course is now accreditred at MEng level.

This means our graduates will have their qualification recognised at a higher level, worldwide. This puts the Chemical Engineering degree in CIT at the same level as similar courses offered at colleges around the world, for example Cambridge University. The only other Chemical Engineering course in The Republic of Ireland accredited at the same high level as CIT level is that at UCD.

We have also been re-accredited recently by Engineers Ireland (Previously the Institute of Engineers of Ireland). This means that our course is approved both nationally and internationally to the highest levels. CIT now has the most highly accredited Chemical Engineering course in Munster !

At the conference were experts from all over Europe in the areas of Sustainable production, clean production and environmental technologies.

22.11.04: Open Day

With over 100 students visiting the department on the day this years open day proved to be one of the most successful to date.
