Why do Chemical Engineering at CIT??

Accreditation

The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) Degree in Chemical and Process Engineering at Cork Institute of Technology is a four-year full time course, which is fully accredited by the Institution of Engineers of Ireland (National) and by the Institution of Chemical Engineers (International). These two endorsements of quality are vital if a Chemical and Process Engineer wishes to seek employment in Ireland and abroad.

Our new international accreditation at MEng level means our course at CIT is the most highly accredited Chemical Engineering course in Munster. This is the highest level of accreditation achievable for a 4 year course - courses in some other colleges in Ireland are accredited at BEng level. This is the award given after a 3 year course in the UK. Now, the Chemical Engineering course at CIT is on an equal footing with courses in the UK, and internationally. The work of a Chemical Engineer often gives him/her the opportunity to travel abroad. Without the accreditation bodies approval of the course at CIT, this would be far more difficult.

History

The Department of Chemical & Process Engineering at CIT has been producing top quality graduates for over 20 years and many graduates have progressed to senior positions at the centre of the chemical and pharmaceutical industries and in the wider business world. Some graduate profiles are given here.

Staff

Departmental staff teach about 65% of all courses. All departmental staff are Chemical Engineers and most have spent significant amounts of time working in the Process Industry and as a result can bring real life experiences to the classroom.

Class Size

CIT prides itself on the fact that all courses are taught in a small class environment, ensuring that students have every opportunity to interact with their lecturers and succeed in their studies.
